A major fire tore through a fuel storage depot in the Tanjaro area near Sulaimaniyah (a city in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq) late Monday, injuring at least 20 people and destroying dozens of tankers. Local officials said no fatalities were recorded, with injuries described as minor, while reports indicate that 34 petrol tankers and four gas-oil tankers were consumed by the blaze, accounting for more than three million litres of fuel lost. Authorities have brought the fire under control, though the cause remains unclear, and market officials say they do not expect the incident to drive up fuel prices in the region.
