A magnitude-4.8 earthquake struck Jhelum district in Pakistan's Punjab province on Tuesday evening, killing at least one person — a teenage boy — and injuring eleven others. The tremor, which hit at 7:06pm local time with its epicentre 58 kilometres southwest of Jhelum city, caused around ten houses to collapse or sustain serious damage in the Pind Dadan Khan tehsil (a sub-district administrative unit), with Jalalpur Sharif and Pindi Saidpur among the worst-affected areas. Rescue teams reached the scene within minutes, and several of the injured were transferred to a district hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.
