Australia has imposed counter-terrorism financing sanctions on the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) — a Pakistan-based militant group — and three of its senior leaders, citing their role in conducting and supporting violent attacks. Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced the measures on 8 May, noting that BLA strikes have targeted civilians, critical infrastructure, foreign nationals, and the Pakistani state. The sanctions, which criminalise any dealings with the listed group's assets, form part of broader international efforts to isolate the organisation financially; Pakistan has separately been lobbying the UN Security Council to designate the BLA under its 1267 sanctions regime.
