The 2026 Paris Marathon delivered one of its most dramatic editions on Sunday, with Ethiopian runner Shure Demise obliterating the women's course record by more than a minute, clocking 2h18:34 — a time that underscored Ethiopia's enduring dominance in long-distance running. On the men's side, Italian-Ethiopian Yemaneberhan Crippa, a 2022 European 10km champion, produced a decisive late surge to take victory in 2h05:19 before a crowd of more than 60,000 runners and spectators along a course that finishes on the Avenue Foch, near the Arc de Triomphe in central Paris.
Demise crossed the line well ahead of compatriot Misgane Alemayehu (2h19:08) and Kenya's Magdalyne Masai (2h19:17), who had entered the race with the fastest qualifying time in the women's field. The men's contest was fiercely competitive, with seven runners still grouped together at the 35-kilometre mark. Crippa, who was born in Ethiopia and competes for Italy, made his move in the final three kilometres, pulling away from Ethiopia's Bayelign Teshager (2nd, 2h05:24) and Kenya's Sila Kiptoo (3rd, 2h05:29).
