Yad Vashem (the world's largest Holocaust memorial and research institution, based in Jerusalem) has announced it will establish its first-ever branch outside Israel in Munich, with a smaller satellite site in the eastern German city of Leipzig. The Munich education centre, to be located at Karolinenplatz, was chosen for its strategic position and educational infrastructure, and is expected to begin operations within two to three years. Officials say the move is intended to strengthen Holocaust education and amplify victims' voices within German and European memory culture at a time of rising antisemitism and historical distortion.
