Australian energy company Invictus has signed a petroleum production sharing agreement with Zimbabwe, granting the government flexibility to take either a share of profits or a portion of gas output. The deal, signed in Harare, centres on the Cabora Bassa basin (a geological formation in northern Zimbabwe), where Invictus declared significant gas condensate discoveries at its Mukuyu field in 2023. The company plans to drill an exploratory well later this year targeting an estimated 1.2 trillion cubic feet of gas, a development Zimbabwe's finance minister described as a step toward unlocking the country's natural resources.
