His family says he was struck by a stray bullet and was not participating in the demonstrations, but fears of reprisal led his relatives to avoid pursuing the case with British authorities. A second British national, Waqas Arif, 38, from Nottingham, has been held in a Mirpur prison for over two months without charge following protests on 5 June, with the UK Foreign Office confirming it has been unable to make direct contact with him despite ongoing diplomatic engagement with Pakistani counterparts.
