A severe thunderstorm struck Toronto, Canada's largest city, on Wednesday, leaving at least 45,000 customers without electricity by evening, according to utility provider Toronto Hydro. The storm brought torrential rain, strong winds, and large hail, triggering tornado warnings, widespread flooding, and road closures — including on the Don Valley Parkway — while the emergency department of Michael Garron Hospital was also affected by floodwater. Dozens of flights were delayed or cancelled at Pearson International Airport, and Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow confirmed the city's emergency operations centre had been activated to coordinate responses to downed power lines, fallen trees, and flood damage across the city.
