Ground frost was recorded in the Twente region (an area in the eastern Netherlands near the German border) in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with temperatures at 10 centimetres above the surface briefly dipping to -0.1°C around 5:30 a.m. According to weather service Weeronline, this marks the first time frost has been measured in the Netherlands between 20 July and 21 August since records began. Ground frost in July has occurred only nine times since Dutch meteorologists started tracking surface temperatures in 1971, making this an exceptionally rare meteorological event.
