Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) have reached the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup (the top club football competition in North and Central America and the Caribbean) after holding Mexican side Cruz Azul to a 1-1 draw in Tuesday's second-leg quarterfinal in Puebla, Mexico, winning 4-1 on aggregate. South Korean star Son Heung-min, who had scored in the first leg, played the full match but was kept off the scoresheet, while Denis Bouanga netted a late penalty to seal LAFC's progression despite their side being heavily outshot. LAFC will next face either Deportivo Toluca FC or LA Galaxy in the semifinals — making this their third semifinal appearance in the competition, a record for any Major League Soccer club.
