More than 100 House Democrats voted on Wednesday in favour of an amendment that would have halted $3.3 billion in planned US military aid to Israel, signalling deepening fractures within the party over the Netanyahu government's conduct in Gaza. The measure, proposed by Republican congressman Thomas Massie, was ultimately rejected by a 104–314 vote, but the 103 Democrats who supported it represent nearly half of the House Democratic caucus. The vote highlighted an unusual split in Democratic leadership: while minority leader Hakeem Jeffries opposed the amendment, the House Democratic whip Katherine Clark — the second-highest-ranking Democrat — backed it, stating that the Netanyahu government had failed to comply with US law, interests, and values.
