Hundreds of kayakers paddled through Copenhagen harbour on Sunday waving Greenlandic flags in a demonstration of support for Greenland's indigenous rights, timed to coincide with the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. The event was organised by Uagut, an association representing Greenlanders living in Denmark, alongside ActionAid Denmark, and drew large crowds to the city's bridges and quaysides. "It's been a very tough year to be a Greenlander," said Uagut chair Julie Rademacher, citing threats to Greenlandic identity and land rights — a reference to repeated calls by US President Donald Trump to bring Greenland (an autonomous Arctic territory of Denmark, rich in minerals) under American control.
