British cyclist Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) claimed a stage victory and the overall leader's jersey at O Gran Camiño, a multi-stage race held in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain, by attacking on the steep final climb to Cabeza de Meda — a summit above the Sil river canyon never before used in professional racing. The 33-year-old, who has nine stage-race victories to his name including tours of Switzerland, Romandy, and the UAE, is using the race as preparation for his primary 2025 target, the Giro d'Italia. Yates is expected to seal overall victory on Saturday and will then join teammate João Almeida at a training camp in Sierra Nevada ahead of a bid for the Giro's maglia rosa.
