Indian javelin thrower Ashish Yadav claimed a silver medal at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Eugene, USA, with a third-round throw of 74.09m, opening India's medal tally on the event's third day. South Africa's Jan-Hendrik Heymans took gold with a throw of 80.50m — the season's world lead for under-20 athletes — in his final attempt. The 19-year-old Yadav becomes only the second Indian to win a silver in the event at this level, following two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra, who claimed gold and set the still-standing world junior record of 86.48m at the 2016 edition in Poland.
