Jordan Yap, a 30-year-old experienced hiker from Melbourne, has been found dead in Peru after going missing on a solo trek, his family and friends announced on Saturday. He was last in contact on 14 September, before setting out on the Cordillera Huayhuash circuit (a demanding high-altitude route through the remote Andes, about 400km north-east of Lima). Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it is providing consular assistance to his family, and the cause of death has not been made public.
