South Korean police have arrested around 10 people linked to an organised cheating ring targeting the TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean, a standardised language exam for non-native speakers), with most suspects being Chinese nationals who promoted their services via Chinese social media. The ring allegedly charged clients up to 8 million won (roughly $5,400) for proxy test-takers and 2 million won for transmitting answers via hidden earpieces, accumulating an estimated 700 million won in criminal proceeds. A total of 101 Chinese nationals have also been booked for paying the ring to fraudulently obtain TOPIK scores needed for university admission, scholarships, visa renewals, or employment at South Korean firms.
