South Korea's homegrown Nuri rocket lifted off from the Naro Space Center in Goheung, on the country's southern coast, on Oct. 7 and placed 15 satellites into orbit at about 575 km, the Korea AeroSpace Administration said. The payload included five NEONSAT microsatellites, the first of a planned 10-satellite Earth-observation constellation for national security and disaster monitoring of the Korean Peninsula, plus 10 CubeSats; officials said a detailed analysis is under way to confirm that all satellites deployed successfully. The mission was Nuri's first to sequentially release multiple primary satellites with the same purpose, and the remaining five NEONSATs are due to fly on its sixth launch next year, enabling the constellation to image the peninsula more than three times a day.
