Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar told a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC — the 57-member body representing the Muslim world) on Tuesday that Afghanistan's ongoing instability required sustained collective attention, warning that the situation posed serious risks to regional peace and security. Speaking on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly session in New York, Dar accused the Afghan Taliban of harbouring over two dozen terrorist groups responsible for cross-border attacks on Pakistan, and called on the OIC to press Kabul to eliminate terrorist sanctuaries, lift restrictions on women and girls, and pursue a more inclusive form of governance. His remarks come amid heightened tensions between Islamabad and Kabul, with a recent UN monitoring report confirming that Taliban support for the Pakistani militant group TTP has contributed to a rise in the frequency and lethality of attacks inside Pakistan.
