North Korea and Russia marked the linking of a new road bridge over the Tumen River (which forms part of the border between the two countries in northeast Asia) at a ceremony held Tuesday, with full completion expected by June 19. Construction of the bridge began in April 2025, following a summit between Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin in Pyongyang in June 2024. The project deepens ties between Pyongyang and Moscow at a time when North Korea has deployed troops in support of Russia's war in Ukraine, and would add a road crossing to the single rail bridge that currently connects the two countries.
