Sindh Governor Nehal Hashmi on Thursday handed cheques of Rs26 million each to the families of three Pakistanis who died in captivity aboard the hijacked oil tanker MT Honour 25, on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Each payment combines Rs12.5 million in assistance with Rs13.5 million for buying a plot of land, and the government has also promised free housing and free education for the victims' children. The payout shows how Islamabad is compensating the families of seafarers lost to Somali piracy, a threat that has re-emerged off the Horn of Africa's coast.
