Switzerland's right-wing Swiss People's Party (SVP) has emerged as the dominant force in the second round of municipal elections across the canton of Zurich (Switzerland's most populous canton), gaining 18 seats across local parliaments in cities including Uster, Dübendorf, Wetzikon, Wädenswil, and Kloten. The results mark a sharp shift rightward compared with four years ago, when the same elections were defined by strong gains for Green parties; this time the Greens and the Green Liberal Party (GLP) were the biggest losers. The Social Democrats (SP) also suffered setbacks in executive councils, losing seats in both Uster and Kloten to GLP challengers, underscoring a broader realignment in one of Switzerland's most politically influential regions.
