Palantir Technologies, the US data-analytics firm known for its close ties to the American military and intelligence communities, has published a sweeping ideological statement calling on Silicon Valley's "engineering elite" to commit to national defence — triggering widespread controversy. The 22-point document, drawn from a book co-authored by CEO Alex Karp, argues that AI weapons are inevitable and that democratic nations must build them first, while also advocating mandatory national service, a stronger military posture for Germany and Japan, and a rejection of what it calls "hollow pluralism" — remarks critics read as culturally discriminatory. The backlash has been amplified by Palantir's existing reputation: the company supplies AI targeting tools to the US military, supports immigration enforcement operations through contracts with ICE, and signed a strategic partnership with the Israeli government during its Gaza campaign, which the UN says has killed more than 70,000 Palestinians.
