Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has recorded at least 107 deaths since the monsoon season began on June 26, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province accounting for the majority of fatalities at 55, followed by Punjab with 36. Most deaths were caused by house and roof collapses, electrocutions, and drowning, with meteorologists forecasting a fresh spell of heavy rain from July 29 across the country's northern regions. Separately, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) alert for Gilgit-Baltistan (a mountainous northern territory home to some of the world's largest glaciers outside the polar regions) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through early August, warning that accelerating ice melt could trigger sudden, destructive surges of water and debris, as roads in several GB districts have already remained blocked for five consecutive days.
