Belgium's Council of Ministers adopted a royal decree on Saturday 18 July prohibiting the import of products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, covering the West Bank — including East Jerusalem — and Gaza, though notably excluding the annexed Golan Heights. The move makes Belgium the latest EU member state to act unilaterally on the issue, following similar bans by Spain, the Netherlands, and Ireland, as the bloc as a whole has yet to agree on a common position. Amnesty International Belgium welcomed the step as advancing respect for international law, while cautioning that without a parallel ban on the resale of such goods, settlement products could still reach Belgian consumers after entering the EU through a neighbouring country such as France.
