A 21-year-old woman was killed at a bungee jumping event in Limeira, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, after instructors threw her from a 40-metre-high bridge without attaching her to the safety rope. The incident occurred at the Ponte do Esqueleto (Skeleton Bridge), a disused road bridge popular for extreme sports that lacks official oversight — the group organising the jump had no formal authorisation to operate there. Six people were arrested; video footage circulating on social media shows the rope left coiled on the ground as the woman fell, with staff heard shouting in panic moments too late to intervene.
