Pakistan began a nationwide anti-polio vaccination campaign on April 13, aiming to immunise more than 45 million children under the age of five over seven days. Frontline health workers are conducting door-to-door visits across urban centres and remote communities, administering oral polio drops alongside Vitamin A supplements. First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, who announced the drive, noted that only one polio case has been recorded in the country so far in 2026, down from 31 in 2025, but cautioned that the virus remains a risk as long as it exists anywhere. The campaign is being coordinated with neighbouring Afghanistan to prevent cross-border transmission.
