Oscar Schmidt, widely regarded as the greatest basketball player never to compete in the NBA, has died at the age of 68 in São Paulo, Brazil. A Basketball Hall of Fame inductee (2013) known by the nickname "Holy Hand," Schmidt scored a record 1,093 points across Olympic tournaments and represented Brazil at every Games from 1980 to 1996. His death marks the end of a 30-year career in which he became a defining figure in international basketball, including leading Brazil to a landmark victory over the United States at the 1987 Pan American Games.
