The European Commission has announced the winners of its fifth annual European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award, recognising towns, cities, and regions across the EU for exemplary anti-discrimination and equality policies. In the category for cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants, Józsefváros (the eighth district of Budapest) took first place, with Leuven, Belgium — praised for initiatives such as its 'Leuven Without Racism' programme and a ten-point action plan targeting discrimination in housing, employment, and education — awarded silver, and Leiden, Netherlands, receiving bronze. The award forms part of the EU's broader Union of Equality agenda and was announced on the eve of EU Diversity Month.
