Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage claimed gold with an 89.75-metre second-round throw — Sri Lanka's first-ever athletics gold at the Commonwealth Games — while Neeraj Chopra took silver with a season-best 85.83 metres and compatriot Yash Vir Singh claimed bronze with a personal-best 85.41 metres on his final attempt. Arshad Nadeem, the defending champion, was eliminated after the first three rounds with a best throw of 77.41 metres, one of four competitors cut from the 12-man field at that stage. The final was held at Scotstoun Stadium in blustery conditions with temperatures around 14 degrees Celsius, and Pathirage's winning mark went unchallenged for the remainder of the competition. India's Rohit Yadav finished seventh with a throw of 81.56 metres.
