Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro, 22, won the Grand Prix de Montréal (a one-day classic held over 214 kilometres and 16 local laps through the city) on Saturday, beating French youngster Paul Seixas of Decathlon-CMA CGM in a two-man sprint finish. The pair had broken clear in the final lap before Del Toro, riding for UAE-Emirates, outmanoeuvred Seixas's late solo attack just four kilometres from the line and crossed with a bow. The result carries added significance as the race covered part of the same course that will host the UCI Road World Championships in late September, where defending champion Tadej Pogačar is set to be absent through injury, making Del Toro an early favourite.
