The deadlock was finally broken late in the third quarter when Tijmen Reyenga drove the ball into the circle and Duco Telgenkamp reacted sharply to deflect it into the net. Telgenkamp has been a consistent match-winner for the Dutch at this tournament, having also scored decisive goals against New Zealand and Argentina. The lead was doubled in the fourth quarter through Tjep Hoedemakers, who finished off a fierce cross from Koen Bijen at close range.
