The United States will renew its ban on American citizens travelling to North Korea for another year, the State Department announced on Monday. The restriction, first imposed in 2017 and renewed annually since, will remain in effect from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026, rendering all US passports invalid for travel to or through North Korea unless specifically authorised. The department cited the continuing "serious risk" of arrest and prolonged detention of US nationals as justification for the extension.
