A 66-year-old Spanish man, Juan José Mutilba Obregón, has been missing for nine days after falling overboard in the Mediterranean Sea while fishing for tuna. He and his wife, Carmen Díez (67), set sail from the Sicilian port of Syracuse on 17 August, bound for Pylos on Greece's Peloponnese peninsula, when he slipped off the deck — likely on fish blood — after catching a tuna. His wife, unable to operate the catamaran, drifted helplessly for three days before reaching a family friend in Spain, who alerted authorities; she was eventually rescued some 33 kilometres off Pylos and has since returned home, while Italian and Greek coastguards continue searching the area roughly 220 kilometres off the Italian coast where he reportedly fell overboard.
