The Open Society Foundations (OSF), the philanthropic organisation founded by billionaire George Soros, has announced a $300 million commitment over the next five years to protect democratic institutions and promote economic security in the United States. The pledge comes as the Trump administration and its congressional allies have intensified scrutiny of progressive non-profits, pressing the IRS and Department of Justice to investigate groups accused of funding causes including illegal immigration and far-left activism. OSF managing director Laleh Ispahani said the foundation would "not be intimidated into silence," with the initiative marking the first major US-focused strategy approved under Alex Soros, who assumed leadership of the foundations after a recent restructuring.
