Pakistan claimed its first outright international football tournament title since 1952, defeating Afghanistan 2–0 in the final of the Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament in Malé (the capital of the Maldives). Shayek Dost opened the scoring with an acrobatic overhead kick in the 24th minute, before substitute Harun Hamid sealed the result in stoppage time. The victory, described by head coach Norberto Solano as a sign of the team's growing belief, comes ahead of crucial Asian Cup and World Cup qualifying campaigns later this year.
