South Korean conglomerate Hanwha Group and U.S. firm Magnet Defense have signed a memorandum of understanding to co-develop medium unmanned surface vessels (MUSVs) — crewless ships capable of surveillance, logistics, and combat support — for the U.S. military. The deal, announced at the Sea-Air-Space Exposition in Maryland, calls for the two companies to produce a 38-metre vessel based on Magnet Defense's M48 platform, integrated with Hanwha's shipbuilding, missile, and robotics technologies, for potential supply to the Pentagon. The partnership reflects Hanwha's broader strategy to deepen its foothold in the U.S. defense industry through local collaborations and advanced manufacturing.
