Australian actor Charlotte MacInnes is suing Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson in a Federal Court defamation case over social media posts Wilson made to her 11 million followers in September 2024, which MacInnes claims falsely suggested she had fabricated a sexual harassment complaint and traded favours for career opportunities. MacInnes alleges the posts — relating to a complaint she denies making about feeling uncomfortable after bathing with producer Amanda Ghost during production of the musical film The Deb — caused serious reputational harm before she could benefit from her debut feature role. Wilson's defence team countered that MacInnes's career has in fact flourished since the posts, pointing to a newly revealed $150,000 advance deal with Atlantic Records whose roster includes Britney Spears and Shakira, though a witness for MacInnes testified she has suffered lasting psychological harm, including panic attacks, nightmares, and a loss of trust.
