The 29-year-old, who won the European title in 2022, lost in the over-100kg category to Estonian Karl Priilinn Turk in a golden score period after regulation time ended level, with Turk securing victory via a yuko — judo's lowest-scoring hold. Compatriots Michael Korrel and Simeon Catharina remain in contention in the under-100kg category, both having won their opening bouts.
