Two men, a father in his seventies and his son in his forties, were shot dead early yesterday in a forest near Halden in southeastern Norway, close to the Swedish border (an area popular for elk hunting). A third man, also in his forties, was seriously wounded; the three had been part of a group preparing to go hunting. A man in his twenties, who was not in the group but is believed to have a connection to it, was arrested after bystanders held him until police arrived, and he has confessed; police say he used a licensed hunting rifle, believe he acted alone, and have given no motive.
