Robert Del Naja, frontman of British trip-hop group Massive Attack, was arrested in London's Trafalgar Square on Saturday after holding a sign reading "I Oppose Genocide, I Support Palestine Action" at a mass demonstration against the banning of the activist group. Del Naja, who said before his arrest that he believed the action was "ridiculous" but attended regardless of the risk to his touring career, called his detention unlawful as officers carried him away. More than 500 people were arrested at the protest, organised by Defend Our Juries, despite a UK High Court ruling in February that the government's proscription of Palestine Action — a direct-action group that targets defence industry sites — was "disproportionate and unlawful"; the Metropolitan Police resumed making arrests in March while a Court of Appeal hearing on the matter is pending.
