The International Organization for Migration says more than 20,000 Ethiopians have entered Djibouti since September 20, with over 3,000 stranded in remote desert areas where food and water are running dangerously low. They are heading along a perilous route toward conflict-hit Yemen, while Djibouti, a small, resource-limited Horn of Africa state, is also receiving Ethiopians returning from Yemen. The IOM is providing emergency food, water and medical care but says migrants using alternative routes are harder to reach, and it is urging sustained international funding to prevent vital aid from being cut.
