Around 120 unionised employees of Naver Z Corp. (the metaverse affiliate of South Korean internet giant Naver) picketed outside the company's headquarters in Seongnam, south of Seoul, on Wednesday, marking the second collective action this year over a decision to freeze wages. The union noted that a pay freeze of this kind had occurred only once before — during the 2008 global financial crisis — and accused management of hypocrisy, pointing out that executive salaries were raised by 71 percent even during that earlier freeze. The walkout follows a similar industrial action at Kakao Corp., a rival messenger app operator, and signals growing labour unrest across South Korea's major tech and portal service companies.
