A Congolese human rights organisation has documented the disappearance of 561 young people detained under 'Zéro kuluna', a security operation launched a year ago by President Denis Sassou Nguesso and entrusted to the presidential guard (DGSP) to combat urban gang crime across Brazzaville, Pointe-Noire, Dolisie, and Nkayi. The Observatoire congolais des droits de l'Homme (OCDH) released its findings on Tuesday, drawing on testimony from families who describe armed, masked soldiers conducting night-time raids with no subsequent legal process or word of their relatives' whereabouts. The OCDH is calling on authorities to transfer all detainees to civilian judicial oversight, warning that 561 people are currently being held outside the protection of the law.
