Saudi Arabia has postponed its Future Investment Initiative, an annual state-backed investment conference nicknamed "Davos in the Desert", from 26–29 October to 2027, with a new date to be announced soon. The move follows escalating Houthi (an Iran-aligned armed movement in Yemen) attacks on Saudi energy, civilian and military sites, including Riyadh's international airport, where strikes have killed at least 18 people; Riyadh government agencies and some firms have also told staff to work from home. The conference is a key platform for drawing foreign capital to Saudi Arabia's plan to diversify its economy away from oil, and its delay shows the regional conflict increasingly disrupting major business events in the Gulf.
