Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi travelled to Tehran on Monday and met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his counterpart Eskandar Momeni, with Iranian officials expressing willingness to return to dialogue with the United States. Iran, which expressed gratitude to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir for their peace efforts, has relayed seven conditions for resuming talks through Qatar — including a ceasefire, the release of frozen assets, and an end to a US naval blockade. The diplomatic push comes 97 days after the collapse of a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding and ahead of the UN General Assembly, where Pezeshkian is expected to meet Sharif on the sidelines, even as the US Treasury warned that American sanctions will effectively ground Iranian airlines worldwide from September 23rd.
