Susy Aponte Polo, a Peruvian journalist and regional political candidate known as China Polo, was shot dead while campaigning at a market in Peru. She was killed just one week after publicly revealing she had received death threats related to her investigation into a local police chief. Two other people were wounded in the attack, and one suspect has been detained.
