Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM, a Muslim-minority political party based in Hyderabad), held his first campaign rally in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, on Monday, criticising what he called the exploitation of Muslim voters ahead of state assembly elections. Speaking at Raghunathganj, Owaisi attacked both local ally-turned-rival Humayun Kabir and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing them of failing to address systemic injustices faced by the state's Muslim population. The rally follows a recent split between AIMIM and Kabir's Aam Janata Unnayan Party, signalling a fractured opposition landscape in a region where Muslim voters form a significant electoral bloc.
