The BBC is cutting as many as 2,000 jobs to save £500m, with the plans announced department by department over several weeks, and staff at its London headquarters say the gradual rollout has badly damaged morale. The Guardian understands BBC Scotland and BBC Three are expected to become online-only channels, and some employees fear further waves of cuts in the new year as falling cash revenues strain the corporation. The BBC (the UK's publicly funded national broadcaster, financed mainly by a household licence fee) is also in talks with the government over its future funding model, which could extend the fee to people who use streaming services.
