The FIA (motorsport's global governing body) has revised Formula 1's 2026 technical regulations following widespread complaints from drivers and fans about safety risks and overly restrictive energy management. The changes reduce the power gap between cars in energy-harvesting mode and those at full boost — a disparity that contributed to a serious crash at the Japanese Grand Prix, when Haas driver Oliver Bearman struck Franco Colapinto at a significant speed difference. Drivers will also be able to push harder through high-speed corners in qualifying without managing energy, while a new start procedure will give stalled cars a boost and a flashing warning light to alert approaching competitors.
