A Berlin administrative court has ruled that Görlitzer Park (a well-known public green space in the Kreuzberg district, long associated with open drug dealing) must remain open after five local residents successfully challenged the city government's order to close it each night. The court found that the Berlin Senate's environmental administration lacked the legal authority to impose the closure, ruling that under the city's parks law, such restrictions are the responsibility of the local district authority — Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg — not the state Senate. The nightly closures, enforced by private security since 1 March as part of a broader crackdown on crime, will now be suspended pending a full hearing, though the Senate may appeal to a higher court.
